Building a Sustainable Future Through Play
Transforming waste into fearless play
At NumatREC, sustainability and play go hand-in-hand. Every playground we build keeps rubber waste out of landfills, transforming it into shock-absorbent play surfacing that protects kids. By choosing NumatREC, you’re helping create a safer, greener world where children can explore with confidence.
Local Solutions for a Global Impact
Landfills are filling up fast, but at NumatREC, we see this as an opportunity. Every week, we recycle up to 15 tonnes of rubber, transforming it into safe, durable playground surfaces that help children thrive while reducing waste.
Our locally manufactured rubber shockpads keep production close to home, reducing transportation impact while supporting the community. With an innovative granulator, we recycle discarded rubber into shock-absorbing layers that protects children as they play. These shockpads make playgrounds safer and greener, turning waste into spaces that inspire exploration and adventure.
From Waste to Award-Winning Play
In our recent CPlay project, we took old rubber playground surfaces and gave them a new life. By recycling these materials, we helped create a vibrant, award-winning play space that stands as a model for sustainable, community-driven design. Watch this video to learn more about this amazing story.
Sustainability in Every Step
At NumatREC, our commitment to sustainability is built into everything we do—from sourcing materials to manufacturing. By turning discarded rubber into vibrant play surfaces, we create safe spaces for children while reducing our environmental footprint. With every playground, we’re paving the way for a cleaner, greener future, one recycled surface at a time.
Tackling Rubber Waste:
Making a Real Difference.
Transforming Waste into Playgrounds.
Rubber waste is a growing global issue, with tonnes of it ending up in landfills every year. By recycling rubber through NumatREC’s recycling program, we’re turning that waste into a valuable resource. Our rubber recycling program processes up to 15 tonnes of rubber waste per week, keeping 780 tonnes of rubber out of landfills annually—that’s 866 skip bins worth of rubber waste repurposed.
Our rubber recycling video shows how we transform old rubber into safe, eco-friendly playground surfaces that kids love.
Local Manufacturing:
Lowering Environmental Impact.
Supporting New Zealand’s Economy and Reducing Emissions.
All of our NumatREC designed playground equipment is crafted at our Oamaru-based workshop, which helps reduce transportation emissions and shortens delivery times. By focusing on local production, we’re able to deliver custom playground solutions that reflect community values and have a lower carbon footprint. Our locally sourced materials video shows how our New Zealand-based facility crafts playground equipment with reduced transportation emissions, faster delivery, and a lower carbon footprint.
