It can be difficult to keep the kids entertained in the school holidays. So, to help all those parents our there, we have come up with a list of the top 10 Numat destination playgrounds to visit this summer. 

Destination playgrounds aren’t your average local neighbourhood playground. Known for being great places to spend a day, these destination playgrounds are great for keeping the kids entertained during the school holidays. 1. Kopupaka Reserve, Auckland

This brand-new playground is at the top of our list because of its bright colours and recent installation. The design of the playground reflects the history of the area where strawberry fields were once the main attraction. Numat installed the surfacing for this project as well as the colourful balls acting as berries scattered throughout the space.

This playground has everything to entertain the kids with a large feature slide, water play area, kick-a-ball space, flying fox and ecological education area. Opened in December of 2020, it’s one of the countries most recent destination playgrounds. Be one of the first people to check out this brand-new playground these summer holidays.

2. Cornwall Park Playground, Hastings

This feature playground is just over a year old and is a great place to spend the day. Designed to reflect its surrounding park environment, the playground has an oak leaf and acorns theme. It is a bright, colourful playground with a 10-metre-tall Acorn Village climbing structure, wet play area, flying fox, trampolines, electronic interactive memory game and lots more to keep your kids exploring all day long. With lots of different areas to discover and fun play activities, this playground will have something for everyone.

3. Margaret Mahy Family Playground, Christchurch

Margaret Mahy Playground is one of the largest destination playgrounds in New Zealand. This year it celebrates its 5th birthday and is still looking fantastic. With multiple play options including a splash zone, Pour‘n’Play ‘hills’, a four-meter-wide slide, double flying fox, sandpit, climbing nets, trampolines, tunnels, and an 8-metre-high tower with a spiral slide, this park is a great place to spend the day with public BBQ’s available, a picnic area, as well as nearby shops. 4. Karori Park, Wellington

Focusing on accessibility, Karori Park playground is designed to have accessible entryways and rubber surfacing throughout the space for ease of access. With a large flying fox, an eagle claw swing, junior play structure, large play structure and picnic tables, this newly upgraded playground is a great place to bring the family and some food and turn it into a day trip.

5. Potters Park, Auckland

Potters Park in Auckland is a vibrant and eye-catching public space, full of a range of play activities and challenges catering to users of all ages and abilities. If you’re interested in having some fun with water play on the splash-pad, test your skills in the balance play area, have a game on the basketball court or slide down the large feature slide, then this is the park for you.

6. Queenstown Gardens Playground

Located in the centre of Queenstown surrounded by the breathtaking Remarkables mountain range, this playground is the perfect pitstop when ambling the Queenstown waterfront. 7. Mosgiel Memorial Park, Dunedin

With a recent surfacing upgrade, this playground has everything you need for some summer entertainment. With its new accessible rubber surfacing, a spinning carousel, and wheelchair accessible swing, it is now an all-inclusive playground. With large open grass areas and plenty of picnic tables, this space is a great spot to have a packed lunch or even dinner with the joy of daylight savings.

8. Royal Reserve, Auckland

Royal Reserve in Auckland is divided into three different zones, a preschooler’s area, a school-aged kid’s area, and a big hill slide which is a major feature of the park. The playground has swings, trampolines, a large metal slide, a spinning carousel and a large climbing structure for plenty of play value. With additional bike tracks and a basketball court, this is a great spot to test out some new presents the kids got for Christmas.

Winner of the NZRA Outstanding Park 2018 award this playground is a truly stunning destination for local Napier families. A fantastically large climbing tower that leads up to a fast corkscrew slide, along with a flying fox, water play area, swings, music play area, and functional artwork make this a great place to keep the kids entertained for hours.

10. Waterview Reserve Playground, Auckland

If your kids love sandpits, then this is the right playground for you to spend these holidays. With a large portion of the playground being filled with sand, and buckets and water play on hand, Waterview Reserve has everything you need to build the ultimate sandcastle. In addition to the sand, Waterview has some great bike tracks running through the playground, this with the attached basketball court make this park the perfect place to have some fun and wear the kids out in the process.
