10 of the Coolest Numat Playgrounds to Visit This Summer
Judging by the long-range weather forecast, it looks like we’re in for a hot summer. If that’s the case, you could find yourself looking for a place to take the kids to chill out, cool down, and blow off a little steam.
To help you out, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favourite playgrounds that have Numat surfacing from around the country for you to check out.
All the parks in our list are open to the public and nearly all free of charge. So, without further ado, here are 10 of the coolest Numat playgrounds to visit this summer.

1. Margaret Mahy Family Park, Christchurch
Margaret Mahy Family Park in Christchurch is a multi-million dollar destination playground that boasts a multitude of play options including; a splash zone, pour’n’play ‘hills’, a four meter wide slide, double flying fox, sandpit, climbing nets, trampolines, tunnels, and an eight-metre high tower with a spiral slide.
In addition to the many play options available at Margaret Mahy Family Park, there are public BBQs, a picnic area, and food and coffee carts nearby on most days. And with newly added shade sails, the park is a comfortable, family-friendly playground to bring the kids on a hot summer’s day.

Location: Manchester Street, Christchurch
2. Potter’s Park, Auckland
Potter’s Park has long been a favourite of local Auckland families and with its recent redevelopment, it promises to stay that way for many years to come.
With its three main activity areas – multi-staged playground, splash pad zone, and basketball court – Potter’s Park has something for all ages.
Points of interest include a large turf mound with a colourful fort on top, multi-coloured pour’n’play paths and play zones, colourful basketball courts, and a splash pad.
Beyond the play area, there’s plenty of seating and picnic tables and lots of shade provided by well-established trees – perfect for a lazy sunny summer afternoon in the park.

3. Waterview Reserve, Auckland
Waterview Reserve Playground is a well-designed modern play space that packs a lot of fun into its 2000m2 footprint.
The playground includes swings, climbing nets, a sandpit, water-play area, and a tower with a spiral staircase and a tube slide. In addition to these, the wider park boasts a gazebo covered BBQ area, skate park, beach volleyball pit, BMX track and basketball court.
Spend a couple of hours, or indeed a full day. Waterview Reserve has enough play value to keep you busy till sundown.

4. Milford Reserve Playground, Auckland
From 1929 to 1957, Milford Reserve was home to the old ‘Pirate Shippe’ – a large dance hall and restaurant that was shaped like a ship.
Today, the modern play area that is situated on the same spot pays homage to that history with a pirate-themed playground that includes a wooden pirate ship and seafaring themed surfacing.
As well as the pirate ship, the playground provides climbing nets, play boxes, sand play, and swing sets. And being in a large reserve near the seashore, there’s plenty of space to play and picnic on a fine summer’s day.

5. Western Park, Auckland
Located in the beating heart of Ponsonby, Western Park playground is a hidden gem with plenty to offer families this summer.
The playground was recently upgraded with Numat Pour’n’Play surfacing and has two racing slides, two treehouses, swings, a seesaw, two trampolines and a flying fox.
The lower level is accessible to wheelchairs and has a carousel and basket swing. And with public toilets, drinking fountains and picnic tables, you’ll be able to comfortably stay for a few hours.
Beyond the playground, there is a lush hillside park and tennis courts nearby.

6. Whoa! Studios, Auckland
Whoa is a word that perfectly sums up the feeling one gets when entering the Whoa! Studios Urban Playground for the first time.
With its multiple play zones – which include a rocket ship, dragon’s castle, pirate’s cove, and a massive, colourful, crochet climbing net – the playground is a fantastical world of make believe that invites the visitor to throw off the every day and dive into a world of fun and imaginative play.
Access to the park is free when attending one of Whoa! Studio’s shows, or $10 for an all-day play pass on its own.
The park also has a newly added inflatable waterslide and obstacle course – perfect for letting the kids cool off and let off steam all while you enjoy great food and drinks available at the nearby café/restaurant (also run by Whoa! Studios.)

7. Otahuhu Recreation Centre Splash Pad, Auckland
On a warm summer’s day, it’s hard to beat the Otahuhu Recreation Centre splash pad for a place to cool off and have some fun.
As part of a $30 million upgrade, the new splash area has become an important element for the local community and serves as an exciting focal point.
With Pour’n’Play craters and water canon mounds, the kids will have hours of fun splashing and spraying one another.
Access to the splash pad is via the main pool complex which houses a fitness centre, indoor pool, spa & sauna – and much more!
There is also an attractive children’s playground outside the centre with turf installed by Numat, which is open to the public free of charge.

8. Highland Park, Mosgiel
The newly opened Highland Park Reserve playground in Mosgiel is a great little park where kids can burn off some summer holiday energy.
With a large mound, tube slide, swings, climbing ropes, spinner, and climbing wall, the playground holds plenty of challenging play options to match all levels of ability.
The playground is set in a larger grassed area which is perfect for ball sports, and there are seats and picnic tables provided.

9. DeBrett’s Spa Resort, Taupo
DeBrett’s Spa thermal resort in Taupo is a wonderland of water fun. Boasting two large thermal hot pools, kid’s warm water pool, 12 private indoor pools, a 4 story high water slide, fresh water pools and spas, and interactive water playground – it’s the perfect place to cool off this summer.
The pools are open from 8.30am to 9.30pm and cost $22 an adult and $11 a child (as of 18/12/2017).
With so many pools and water play areas to choose from and an onsite cafe, DeBrett’s is a great place to spend a summer’s day playing in the sun.
