The Challenge
Māngere Central School wanted to create a play space that was not only safe and durable but also engaging, inspiring, and inclusive for students of all ages. Their existing play area lacked resilience, often becoming worn and uninviting over time. The school needed a surfacing solution that would withstand daily use while offering an environment that encouraged active play, creativity, and exploration. Additionally, accessibility was a key concern—ensuring all children, regardless of ability, could move freely and confidently across the space.

The Journey
The vision was clear: to design a visually exciting and high-performing play surface that would enhance movement, stimulate the imagination, and ensure safety. After assessing the needs of the space and the students, a wet pour rubber surfacing solution was selected. This would provide a seamless, cushioned surface that met the highest safety standards while allowing for dynamic custom graphics and designs that would bring the playground to life.

The Solution

The final installation featured Pour’n’Play wet pour rubber surfacing, an innovative material known for its:

  • Superior impact absorption – Meeting NZS 5828:2015 standards to ensure protection from falls.
  • Bright, engaging designs – Encouraging active and creative play.
  • Durability and low maintenance – Standing up to daily schoolyard activity without the need for constant upkeep.
  • Full accessibility – Providing an inclusive space where students of all abilities can move and play with ease.
