Who says you need a big space to make a big impact? Pocket parks are proving that even the smallest urban nooks can become vibrant community hotspots. Clifton Court in Panmure is a shining example—a once-overlooked area now transformed into a lively pocket park that boosts local quality of life and fosters a strong sense of belonging.
At NumatREC, we teamed up with other contractors to sprinkle some magic into this space. Our contribution? Installing colorful surfacing and playful shapes that turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. We wanted to create a surface that’s not just walked on but experienced—a canvas that invites kids and adults alike to explore, play, and connect.
Working alongside mana whenua, the park’s design beautifully weaves in the tale of the eight-tailed taniwha Moko Ika Hiku Waru, adding a rich cultural layer to the experience. The Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust generously shared whakatauākī (proverbs) relevant to the area, which are now inscribed on the park’s concrete walls—little nuggets of wisdom for everyone to enjoy.
Now, Clifton Court isn’t just a pass-through spot; it’s a destination. With a play space, plaza, laneway, and courtyard decked out with seating, bike parking, and outdoor activity areas, it’s become a bustling hub where the community gathers. It’s amazing how a touch of creativity and collaboration can turn a small space into a place where big memories are made.
We’re thrilled to have played a part in making Clifton Court a more vibrant and welcoming place for everyone.
